Some of Blue Sky Editorial responsibilities include the following:

 

  • Create new publishing ideas and submit them as proposals to publishers, bringing aboard the requisite writers and editors and then manage them to complete the project as contracted, on time and on budget 

  • Fulfill publishers' own plans in selected acquisitions of new titles on behalf of publishers, recruiting expert authors and editors as needed in specific disciplines

  • Ensure delivery of and edit raw manuscript in developmental editing and copyediting, pepare final graphics to ensure they are error-free, including grammar and spelling

  • Check grammar, spelling, and punctuation; resolve inconsistencies and fix awkward or unclear language

  • Maintain strict adherence to production deadlines, provide work in progress at various stages per contract deadlines

  • Prepare final files per requested format, as tagged and coded text files for digital publication or as InDesign-generated pdf layout files for printing

  • Provide sign-off on projects at final release to ensure accuracy.

 

Blue Sky Editorial specific skills, qualifications, and competencies include the following:

 

  • Wide range of editing experience in social and hard sciences, humanities, and liberal arts

  • Deep understanding of written communication principles and skills

  • Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite, Apple, and Adobe software, including InDesign, Acrobat, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.

  • Ability to accurately review complex materials including graphics, text, multimedia, websites, and charts with excellent attention to detail

  • Superior project management skills; highly organized with the ability to multitask effectively

  • A solid respect for and command of the English language

  • Familiar with all major style guides, incluidng ALA, APA, Chicago, AMA, etc.
