J. Geoffrey Golson
Geoff Golson began his professional editorial career in the late 20th century at the now venerable OMNI Magazine as an associate editor, responsible for the Mind (psychology) department, among other duties. Over the next decades, he worked for Rand McNally, moving up to senior editor, and produced and edited numerous atlas products. Further, Golson held other editorial management positions, including starting a trade and professional book division as a publisher for Lebhar-Friedman. Finally, he served as a publisher at Macmillan USA, in charge of single-volume trade and library reference.
In 2001 Golson founded and managed an editorial production company, specializing in providing trade and academic titles to major publishers, including HarperCollins, SAGE Publications, and EBSCO Publishing. He produced some 75 multivolume encyclopedias, series, and other editorial products for both print and digital publishing, building a profitable small business with seven staff members. He recruited freelance staff and supervised all author recruitment, editorial, and production functions. His company won more than 20 awards over the years for outstanding editorial from the American Library Association, Booklist, Choice, RUSA, and other organizations. Just one example includes The Encyclopedia of Health Communication chosen as a Choice Outstanding Academic Title.
